The Alvados Caves by offering various programmes of regular visits and group visits to the caves and various special visit programmes in common to the caves and the "School Farm", wish to point out here the "Donkey Ride Cave" programme for its reference leisure character subject to a limited number of participants which besides entailing the involvement of an endangered species is different from "Pedagogic Cave", "Sportive Cave" or "Speleologist Cave" and programmes since it is the only one which is not exclusive to the schools but open also to families or other groups. The "Donkey Cave" lasts a whole day, requires pre-booking and has a specific programme for schools only but is extensive to families or organised groups of people for this purpose and has a short half-day programme, morning or afternoon, subject also to compulsory previous booking but allows a certain flexibility in the timing in which it can be made. Whilst the schools have a minimum required pre-booking of 8 days in order to organize, agree and book the visit to one cave with the donkey ride included in the programme. The families or groups are only required a minimum pre-booking of 2 days
The “donkey rides”, with or without cart, are a charming form of leisure for children, youngsters or adults and contribute to the necessary attention call to this nice endangered species and therefore considered and protected by law and the reproduction of which is controlled and encouraged. There is also the possibility to organize and develop own proposals and other solutions or educational activities in order to promote constructive attitudes and behaviours among students and young people, which range beyond the organized visit to the caves with the donkey rides included to other educational or leisure programmes organized by the “Farm School” in close collaboration with the Nature Conservation Institute, in this way offering activities which last for two or more days with adequate board and lodging for up to 60 youngsters. The “donkey rides” besides being included in a programme with includes the visit to one of the most emblematic caves in the region.., Alvados Caves or Santo António Caves…, allow for the closing of a well-spent morning or afternoon at the “Farm School”…, in the heart of the Aire and Candeeiros Mountains Natural Park.
